In memory of Ben Thapa
It hardly seems possible that Singers Direct should need to report that Ben died suddenly in hospital at the age of 42.
A hugely versatile and collaborative singer, he would delight in singing anything from Monteverdi to Wagner and beyond. He was an accomplished conductor, in charge of several choirs and was surely entering the most productive years of his life.
He loved good food, good perfumes and was a gin connoisseur but, more than that, he loved and supported his friends and will be sorely missed.
In Memory of Michael R. Bundy
Michael was a founder member of Singers Direct, a much loved and respected colleague and regarded by the singing community at large as one of this country’s finest bass-baritones.
At home in concerts, recitals or on the opera stage, his luxurious voice graced all the major concert halls and cathedrals, covering a vast repertoire. He held a particular love of French music, particularly of Widor, Vierne and Tournemire, of whom he had two books published and three CDs released.
His musicianship was outstanding and his sight-reading excellent, as evidenced by his two periods as a member of the BBC Singers during which he gave many solos broadcast on Radio 3. In addition to this, he was a fine organist and held posts at Twickenham Parish Church and St John’s, Richmond.
Away from music, he was well read, an avid solver of cryptic crosswords, a bon vivant and possessor of a wickedly funny sense of humour.
He is much missed by us all and survived by Brian, his partner of 49 years.
